An unexpected outgrowth of Gaian Variations and its initial failure was that Currier became directly involved with the science behind the work, and was active in a wide variety of climate-related initiatives around the same time.
When NASA celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its exobiology program, the keynote speakers were Gaia theory founders James Lovelock and Lynn Margulis, and Margulis cited a passage from Paul Lowman's Life's Tectonics (MIT Press, 2011), of which Currier was co-author.
